DOMINICAN CIGARS

The Dominican Republic holds a tradition for tobacco over 500 years old. From generation to generation the knowledge of tobacco cultivation, the production of tobacco and the manufacturing of cigars has been passed on. According to experts and cigar aficionados, the fertile areas surrounding Santiago in the Cibao valley are known worldwide as the best region for cultivating cigar tobacco.
The fact that the Dominican Republic has in the meantime grown to be the largest exporter of hand made cigars in the world offers proof of the popularity of the tobacco grown there. In 1997 alone, over 270 million cigars were exported worldwide.
